Twenty Knots is a free app for practising Émile Coué’s method on iPhone, Apple Watch and CarPlay. It was built to be private from the start: there is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. This page explains, in plain terms, what that means for the app and for this website.
The Short Version
- The app does not collect any personal data. We never see your recordings, your affirmations or how you use the app.
- Everything you create stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and in your own iCloud account only if you choose to turn on iCloud sync.
- There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no sign-in and no third-party code that sends data anywhere.
- This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
The App
Your Recordings
When you record an affirmation, the audio is saved as a file on your iPhone. It is not uploaded to us or to anyone else. The app asks for access to the microphone only so that it can make these recordings, and only at the moment you first record. You can withdraw that permission at any time in the iPhone Settings app, under Twenty Knots.
What Is Stored on Your Device
To work, the app keeps the following on your device: your recordings and their names, your playlists and repeat counts, your settings (such as reminder times and the night-mode hour) and a simple history of the sessions you have completed, which powers the calendar view. None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it, unless you have turned on iCloud sync.
iCloud Sync
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on. If you do, your recordings, playlists and history are stored in your own private iCloud account so they can appear on your other devices. That data is held by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy, and we cannot access it. You can turn sync off at any time in the app’s Settings.
Apple Watch and CarPlay
The affirmations and playlists you choose to sync are copied directly from your iPhone to your paired Apple Watch, so the Watch can play them on its own. CarPlay simply shows the app’s player on your car’s display. Neither involves sending anything to us.
Reminders and Exports
Morning and night reminders are local notifications, scheduled on your iPhone itself; no server is involved. If you export an affirmation or playlist as an audio file, it goes only where you send it, for example to the Files app or by AirDrop.
No Analytics, No Tracking
The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. If you have chosen to share analytics with Apple in your iPhone settings, Apple may give developers anonymous, aggregated crash and usage statistics; this is controlled by you and Apple, not by the app.
This Website
twentyknots.app is a simple website. It has no sign-up, no comments, no contact form, no analytics and no advertising. Its fonts are served from this site, not from Google or any other third party.
Like almost every website, our web server keeps short-lived technical logs of the requests it receives, which include your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. We use these only to keep the site running and secure, for example to block automated attacks, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days. Our security software, Wordfence, may set a cookie that is strictly necessary to protect the site, and may share the IP addresses of suspected attackers with its provider, Defiant, to help block attacks. Neither is used to track you.
Where the website links to other sites, such as the App Store, those sites have their own privacy policies.
Children
Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including the right to ask what we hold and to have it deleted. As the app holds nothing about you on our side, the only personal data we could hold is in the website’s security logs, or in any email you send us. You can ask about either using the contact details below, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.
Changes to This Policy
If a future version of the app changes how it handles data, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date at the top.
